What the Bible says about
sadness
The Bible is in no hurry with sadness. A third of the Psalms are laments, Job speaks of his pain for chapters, and Jesus himself wept. God does not require a smile from someone in mourning; he comes near instead. If your sadness is deep and lasting, reaching out for professional help is part of God's care for you.

Near the brokenhearted
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34:18). The Bible's central promise for sorrow is not an explanation. It is presence.
Jesus wept
The shortest verse in the Bible (John 11:35) shows God in the flesh weeping at a funeral, even knowing he was about to raise Lazarus. Sadness is not a failure of faith. Jesus felt it.
Sorrow is not the last word
Revelation 21:4 promises the day when God "will wipe every tear from their eyes." Christian comfort does not deny today's pain. It announces that the pain does not get the final say.
